ABOUT TAKE ACTION HOLLYWOOD!
Since the inception of the art form, films have greatly shaped and, at times, even drastically altered, the feelings, opinions and beliefs of societies. Consider the awareness to the plight of the American Vietnam Veteran that was raised by the film Platoon. Saving Private Ryan spurned an entire new appreciation for World War II, Schindler's List raised awareness for the Holocaust as Erin Brockovich did for the environment and Traffic did for the war on drugs.
But films, and the arts in general, do not just have the ability to educate and raise awareness; they can deeply affect audiences and even make for behavioral change as the empty beaches following the release of Jaws easily proved. And if the impact of the art form does not impress enough, then consider the power of those celebrities who perform within them. Their fashions, attitudes, trends and behaviors are mimicked weekly via what is viewed on the covers of magazines and through reports on websites and magazines. However, in a time where Hollywood as well as television and cinema are under attack for their negative influences, why not utilize the mediums to specifically affect for positive change?

Whether it is for war relief, victims of hate crimes, AIDS prevention, gang violence or the environment, Take Action Hollywood! will seek to utilize the power of Hollywood and the medium of film to educate and to improve human conditions locally, nationally and even worldwide. It is time to use the power of film for something positive. Its time to Take Action Hollywood! |
